Memories

Pictures sit
Still as time
Frozen smiles
Invoke warm memories
Eyes beg
But tears don't come
Leaving them dry for one more day
A lonely space
Deep in my gut
The wind whispers
"Sleep"
Tickling my ear
Warm blankets engulf me
My eyes get heavy
My tongue becomes as lead
A veil is pulled away
And these memories are played
Like on a scratched record
One part plays
Again.
And again.
And again.
Until sleep becomes deep
And all thought halts
Leaving your brain to control
Only your vital signs
And that's all you need
For one more night.
